[ Content warning: Violence, Gore, Profanity] Water pelted every corner of the streets ahead, muddling the young man's path as he struggled to navigate across the growing storm, his vision muddled by rainfall and billowing gusts. He could barely keep the umbrella steady against the tempest, as if the road ahead wasn’t difficult enough to trudge through, which was barely lit by the street lamps which all flickered with age and neglect. It was harder still to even keep the bag dry as it was hoisted near his shoulder, hauling precious groceries. He marched farther across the drenched concrete, farther until he finally set across the worn-down complex, recognizing the distinct claw marks on the trodden door and the missing chunks of stone on the left side of the stairs. He entered through the door, ruffling the umbrella dry and compacting it while slinging the partially dry bag up to his shoulder again as he ascended the stairs ahead. He ran. He could do nothing but run. Running from what was already trailing behind him. He breezed across the vast dark hills within the dead of night, enduring the strain coursing in his legs until finally reached the backdoor of his family house. Moments before he shut the door, for an infinitesimal second……he saw it. Standing there from afar, watching him, its eyes empty, its body too dark to fully see. In disbelief, he slammed and locked the door shut. He bolted across the kitchen and into the front door, locking the bolt tight while he slammed shut every window that could slide; anything that would allow for whatever was conceivable in the human imagination to enter the house. He made sure nothing inside would allow for an easy entrance, and that every passage would be locked or bolted shut the moment anything was out of place. Anything to make sure it never entered. He then walked over to the light switch, just near the stairs, flipping it……but nothing happened. Still
